Georgia Special Needs Scholarship (“SB-10″)

The Cloverleaf School is approved by the State Board of Education to participate in the Georgia Special Needs Scholarship Program. This is a wonderful program that will allow many students to benefit from our unique program.

Although navigating the scholarship process can be confusing and overwhelming, The Cloverleaf School hopes to provide families with information and assistance to simplify the procedures involved.

There are just a few steps to complete the process:

Confirm your child’s eligibility:

Below is the Eligibility Criteria provided by the Georgia Department of Education

In order to qualify for the Georgia Special Needs Scholarship Program a student must meet the following requirements:

Student Eligibility Criteria 1- A student have must a parent/guardian who currently lives in Georgia and has been a resident for at least one calendar year.

Student Eligibility Criteria 2– A student was enrolled and attended a Georgia public school (grades K – 12) the entire 2015 – 2016 school year. Pre-school special education students do not qualify. A student must complete a full school year in kindergarten before he/she can be eligible.

Student Eligibility Criteria 3- A student was reported by a school district(s) during student counts conducted in October 2015 and March 2016 by public schools.

Student Eligibility Criteria 4 – A student does not need to have an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for the entire school year to qualify for the GSNS Program. A student must have received special education services at some point during the 2015 – 2016 school year under an IEP. A student must be reported by a school district(s) in either the October 2015 OR March 2016 student counts OR in student record as a student receiving special education services by the end of the school year.

Determine Scholarship Amount:

Every student receives a specific scholarship amount based on several factors including the previous public school attended and services received.  This amount is predetermined by the Georgia Department of Education. Scholarship amounts for students generally range from $2,500 to $13,500 with an average amount of about $6,000.

Parents can visit the GSNS Program website and calculate their student’s scholarship amount. The scholarship calculator will only work if a student is eligible for the GSNS Program. The amount shown on the award sheet is the annual amount that a student will receive. The word estimate is included because as with all state funded programs, funding for the Georgia Special Needs Scholarship Program is pending appropriations made by the Georgia General Assembly during a fiscal year.

Provide documentation to The Cloverleaf School:

An award sheet is available to print from the GSNS Program website stating the scholarship amount. This sheet will need to be provided to The Cloverleaf School at the time of enrollment.

Parents will also need to provide us with their child’s ten digit GTID number.  This number can normally be located at the top of any standardized test or IEP.  If you are unable to find this number please contact our admissions office for further assistance.  The award sheet generated by the calculator and your child’s GTID number are the only information needed for The Cloverleaf School to process the scholarship.

The total scholarship amount is divided into 4 payments and sent directly to the school. At time of receipt, parents will be asked to sign off on the payment. This must be completed within 30 days of the check issue date or the payment and entire scholarship is forfeited. Parents are responsible for the difference between the annual tuition and the scholarship amount.

We hope this information streamlines the process of The Georgia Special Needs Scholarship.  If you have any questions, our admissions staff is happy to assist you personally or forward you to additional resources.
